“By our powers combined, we are human birth control.”
60-somethings and 20-somethings have finally found common ground: hating women. While baby boomers have always lived their misogyny out loud (think Al Bundy), a surprising turn of events happened more recently in which young men were emotionalized and propagandized by internet forums and image boards to believe that women are the root of all their unhappiness.
These new and improved boomer-juniors have a title: Incels. The name is a portmanteau of “involuntary celibate.” From ChatGPT:
The term “incel” was coined in the 1990s by a Canadian woman named Alana, who started a support group for people of all genders who had trouble finding romantic partners. Over time, especially with the rise of online forums like Reddit and 4chan, the term became associated predominantly with heterosexual men who blamed women, society, or genetics for their lack of romantic success.
It goes on to say:
Looksism and hierarchies: They often divide people into categories such as “Chads” (attractive men), “Stacys” (attractive women), and “normies.” Incels tend to believe they’re permanently excluded from these groups.
Now, a normal person might consider working on their personality, learning some good jokes, exercising, showering, or seeking therapy to remedy these issues, but if you’re an Elliot Rodger, say, you address your grievances more directly, with guns because words and personal hygiene are gay. You could also forego buying weapons and just mow people down in a van like Alek Minassian, who cites the incel movement for the inspiration behind his crimes.
“But what does this actually have to do with boomers?” you ask. Three simple words: the comments section. Facebook, YouTube, and the thriving comments sections of news websites draw self-loathing manchildren like teenagers to Calvin Klein’s “Obsession” at a 1995 high school dance. A woman expressing her commitment to remaining childless? A whore. A woman with tattoos? Also a whore. A female celebrity that said something about equality at some point in her life while promoting a movie? You see where I’m going with this. And the comments with a wildly identical message are being posted by two completely different generations of adult babies.
One of them is a 60 year old guy with dollar store sunglasses that looks a little like Larry the Cable Guy and never smiles in his profile pictures. He definitely has a riding lawnmower and hates democrats. The other one doesn’t show his face, his profile picture is always of a Japanese cartoon character, indicating that he’s probably under 30. He’s only here because Twitter (I’m not calling it by its new name) has a character limit.
Social media like Facebook has given a ‘blood brothers’ twist to inter-generational cyberbullying. The blue collar dotard with diabetes and a bad back and the kid with the anime body pillow and crippling student loan debt have formed in impromptu alliance to either A.) Catcall a woman if she’s attractive or B.) Call her a slob if she’s not. I challenge anyone reading this to find one advertisement or interview prominently featuring a woman, any woman, and see how far you have to scroll before finding a repulsive insult from grown a man whose soul never left the 7th grade. It won’t take long.
The answer to the question “Why all this woman hate?” is really a simple one: Men have always been in charge of women, either by law or by strength. Religions put women in their place over 2000 years ago and they’re still there according to men (and women) who believe in talking snakes, but they’re not still there according to societal changes in the past 100 years, and that pisses off the incels like a stick in a bee hive.
“You mean to tell me after centuries of men being able to do whatever they want to women, I just missed out on all of it?” said the incel into his keyboard, whispered so his mom doesn’t hear him. “I hate progress!”
And it doesn’t stop at sexism. I recently read a comment saying we need to end civil rights protections because “we should be able to decide who we associate and work with”. But that’s another topic for another time.
Birth rates are also way down globally. That means that in a time when women need men more than ever to reproduce, fewer men than ever seem to be able or willing to make themselves approachable (or safe) to women.
So go log in literally anywhere online, the massive universe that is the internet, and try not to find foul, blind aggression towards women by men who are either married and hate their wives, or hate women because they have no wives, or women who hate that other women don’t have husbands. It’s a mental institution out there.
